MOUNT MAUNGANUI: Who says Test cricket is dying. Today’s Live Cricket Match is a clear example of the quality and excitement of Test cricket. New Zealand has beaten Pakistan by 101 runs on DAY-05 of the first Test with the final wicket falling with just 27 balls to spare.
Pakistan had a humongous target to get in the fourth innings. After the disappointing batting run in the first innings, Pakistan stayed on the backfoot and was virtually out the test once a target of 373 was set by New Zealand to win. However, to everyone’s surprise Pakistan managed to hold their ground and stretched the match to the very end with a 165-run stand for the fifth wicket by Fawad Alam (102) and Mohammad Rizwan (60). This partnership kept Pakistan in contention until late in the final session.

Once the partnership between Fawad and Rizwan was broken, Wickets started to crumble and 3 wickets fell rather quickly. Although tail-enders Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah managed to hold their ground for more than seven overs but at the end, Naseem was caught and bowled by Mitchell Santner.
For New Zealand, Kyle Jamieson, Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Neil Wagner and Santner each took two Pakistani wickets.
New Zealand is now up 1-0 in the two match series against Pakistan. This has also improved New Zealand’s ranking in the ICC Test championship. Kane Williamson showed his desire to play the final of the ICC Test Championship in the post match presentation.
