India has stunned the world with their historic series win against Australia today. India vs Australia 4th match stretched right till the end where India came out victorious at the end.

Border-Gavasker Trophy 20/21 was an extremely competitive Test series. After the loss of ODI series upfront. Team India came back hard at the Australians and won the T20 series. And then the biggest challenge of all, a long four Test match series was to be passed.

From worst to the greatest.

India already knew that they will loose their best player and the captain of their team, Virat Kohli right after the first Test. The young and inexperienced Indian batsman will have to take the campaign forward on their own. India’s top order batsman Rohit Sharma was also not a part of the squad due to injury issues. All these issues never should have made it more difficult for the Indian team to be competitive in the Test series, But India surprised everyone.

36 all out ! The lowest point.

India came into the Test series as winners from the T20s. But the first Test turned out to be a horror for the tourists. They lost the first Test in a way that made historic headlines. India got out on the lowest total of 36 runs. This was the lowest ever total by team India ever in the history of cricket.

Virat Kohli was heavily criticized on his individual and team performance in the first Test and the worst thing was he was coming back to India right after this historical defeat. Analyst had discarded any chances of Indian team’s comeback in the absence of Virat Kohli.

The team not only was morally down and under, but also had lost their captain. Main players of the team such as R Ashwin, Jasprit Bhumrah, Prithvi Shaw, Mayank Agarwal, KL Rahul failed to perform and it appeared as if Team India was heading to a total disaster in the 4- match Test series.

Come Back of the Indian Team.

Ajinkya Rahane was named as the replacement captain in IND vs AUS 2nd Test match after the departure of Virat. A Rahane not only captained the team brilliantly but also batted superbly and scored a century which later turned out to be a match winning knock.

All the Indian bowlers also responded exceptionally well and got Australia bowled out within 200 runs in both innings. Mohammed Siraj proved to be a future star for Team India, he bowled splendidly well in the second innings. Siraj got five wickets in the match. Commitment and belief of Rahane resulted is one of the best comebacks in Test cricket. India won the 2nd match by 8 wickets.

The Courageous Draw.

Team India surprised Australia in the 2nd Test Match but Australia was up for the 3rd Test. It was a run fest from Australia where Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne dominated the Indian bowling . Steve Smith scored a brilliant century (131). In response to Aussie 338 India managed to score 244 only. Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne again dominated in the 3rd innings propelling Australia to 312-6d. India had to survive a whole day to draw the match and a 97 runs knock form Rishabh Pant saved the day for India.

Thanks to a great resistance from Indian tail enders H Vihari and R Ashwin who played around 50 overs between them and stayed till the end.

The Spectacular Win

Fourth match at Gabba was the final match of the series and the series was leveled 1-1. Both teams were looking to win the match and the series with it.

A century from M Labuschagne and a total of 369 runs in the first innings had set it up for the Australian cricket team. But India responded well with a 336 runs courtesy a late flourish from S Thakur and Washinton Sundar who both scored half centuries and frustrated the Aussie bowlers for two sessions. It was them who took the innings deep to give India a chance.

Australia was then wrapped up within 300 mark and could only score 294 runs courtesy some great bowling magic from Mohammed Siraj who took his first fifer against Australia.

Rain intrupted and India had to score a huge target of 328 in the fourth innings on DAY-5 which was near to impossible in overcast conditions. However, Shubman Gill and Rishab Pant had other ideas.

India struggled and kept on going with C Pujara blocking one end of the wicket. He scored 56 runs on 211 deliveries and it was looking as if team India was playing for the draw. Not in Rishabh Pant’s book! Rishabh came out and started playing his shots. He scored 89 runs in just 138 runs, thus playing a match winning innings for India to win the match by 3 wickets.

India won the fourth match and the series 2-1. Rishabh Pant was declared Man of the match and rightly so. This is how a spectacular game of cricket and a wonderful competitive series.

India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and Australia once again lost the series. It was the first time ever in the history that Australia lost two consecutive series on the trot. Young and inexperienced Team India achieved what was unexpected and unthought off. Games like these restores the status of Test Cricket and why we need to have more of it in a calendar year.

India is due to face England at home now in the coming days. Let us see how the home series shapes up with Aussie series success in the hind side.
